MOJ’s Canberra Visit – Recollections

“Moments of truth”

Recently the Music of Joy members travelled through the beautiful southern high-lands to perform at the Multi-Cultural Festival 2012 in the picturesque Canberra. The tour started with a concert for the localites to enjoy in a more calmer setting at the Majura Community Centre in Dickson on staurday. It was well attended, and the night was lifted by so much joy that even the shyest people couldn’t resist joining the collective dancing to the rhythmic tunes and sombre melodies.

The scene changed to a much busier and bubbling city centre, lovingly known as the ‘The Heart of Canberra’. With the sun’s warming glow and the wind’s cooling breeze, the concert started with fervent prayers to the auspiciousness of The Australian Land. Followed by a few fast numbers, again we saw the joy starting to bubble in people’s hearts, and soon it was too hard to resist from being involved in the music, be it by clapping hands, or by dancing feet. In those moments of truth, one could feel a cool breeze like wave gently flowing on the palms of our hands, or at the top of the head near the fontanele bone area, and it was in these moments that one could really feel being completely dissolved in the serenity of ones own spirit.

We all enjoyed our visit a lot and we can’t wait to be back.

  1. I was there at the Canberra Multicultural festival for this performance. It was AWESOME! One of the best, most joyful performances I have seen in a long time (well, I have been going to a lot of rock performances recently). And the name of the band really matches their feel, love it, love it, love it. I can’t wait for you guys to be back in the ACT again.

  2. I saw the MOJ Band at the Mujura Community Hall on the Multicultural Festival weekend and followed up the next day on the Sunday at the Multicultural Festival. They were very good expressing a lot of joy thru their music and should be performing to bigger audiences everywhere. Hope they can do so specially at a few Canberra events such as Floriade, Folk Festival or the Canberra Centenary Celebrations next year.
